U16 AAA Week 2 Recap

Week 2 of the Cohort Cup is in the books, the U16AAA team goes 1-1-1 on the weekend moving to 2-2-1-1 in the tournament with one weekend to go. Let’s take a look at the week that was for the team.

Game 1: We played Greater Vancouver Canadians and lost 3-2 in overtime! Goals from Dexter Hanna, and  Laszlo Istvanffy with assists from Zachary Ellis, Zach Wilcox, and Owen Sutherland, just weren’t enough as the Canadians were able to score in overtime and send us to the locker room to start the weekend 0-1, but moving on to the next game with heads up and ready for Cariboo on Saturday!

Game 2: This was a much better performance from our boys! A wonderful 3-0 win over a physical Cariboo Cougars team. It all started in the 1st period with a goal from Dexter Hanna, followed up by a strong second where we saw goals from Cote, and Owen Sullivan, with assists going to Zach Wilcox, Caleb Gray, and Cameron Brewster. The story of this game was the outstanding play of Gregory Sichitiu stopping all 24 shots he faced for his 1st shutout! GM Chris Shaw after the game said “I’m proud of him”. You could tell how happy Sichitiu was after the game and just how his teammates were for him. After the game assistant coach Mack Gray made sure to get the puck and keep it for his goalie! Here is Sichitiu after the game with his puck and the biggest smile you could have! Hawks improve to 1-0-1 on the weekend with one final game to go!

Game 3: In this game, we take on the Vancouver North East Chiefs for the 4th time this tournament going 1-1-1 against them in our previous 3 matchups. Coaches Stefano and Mack decided to ride the hot goalie in Gregory Sichitiu after his shutout performance in the previous but things in this game had a rough start for us, falling 2-0 at the break. But coming out strong for the second half of the game, scoring 3 unanswered goals from Caleb Gray and two from Cameron Brewster, with assists going to Zach Wilcox, Cadence Stanley, Dawson Cote, and Sullivan. The Chiefs came storming back though, scoring 3 unanswered goals themself, winning this contest by a final score of 5-3.

Unfortunately, it just was not the U16AAA Hawks weekend, 2 tough losses, and 1 outstanding win! They get going for Week 3 of the Cohort Cup starting on Friday, November 13th! Let’s Go Hawks!
